Empathy

Empathy is the quality that enables an individual to view a perspective through another's, usually different, eyes. Empathy enables an individual to be aware of the feelings of another, and thus consider what it is like to be in their position.

Empathy is vital in building positive relationships (as it builds trust) and avoiding conflict (as it builds understanding). It is foundational to emotional intelligence and is considered a more important determinant than IQ for success in life.

Empathy is the quality that allows an individual to be aware (both consciously and emotionally) of how others feel, and thus consider what it is like from their perspective.

There is, however, more to empathy than meets the eye. Before an individual can connect with another at a deep level, they must first be able to connect with themselves. It's this capacity for personal introspection that enables connection with another.
